Xvid / Divx

Hi,

First I would like to say I love the design of apps - it's really nice and further more, it works!
On a 8600GTS I get around 29~31 fps at default clock speed.

Just 2 thoughts really:

H264 codec only?

I have few divx/xvid players (living room / car etc.) and like Winamp and Windows media player the H264 codec just doesn't work.. I can check the video with VLC so I know the video is working properly.. however H264 just isn't compatible for play back on divx/xvid device.

Would you be implementing xvid or divx codecs in the future?

Text based configuration?
It would be nice to have a GUI to set a new profile to encode videos. I saw the tutorial on how to make your own profile using text files and well.. I'm just getting too lazy now days to play with text files settings :p

Put some effort into Xvid

I have purchase this product but I am disappointed with the options for ouput basically if you have an apple device you are ok. Currently in order to achieve my goal of a Xvid or DivX I first encode using Badaboom and then encode the result using tmpgEnc4 Express, which also has cuda support (mpeg1/mpeg2). Not the best solution but it is still quicker. I don't believe it will be long before your rivals are offering other codecs and cuda support. You need to seize the opportunity I would make this a priority as badaboom will then become a fast selling 'A' stream product, as I think you have most other things right.

Most things make me smile

I concur. Xvid/MP3 support

I concur. Xvid/MP3 support should be in there. I understand that H264 is the most widely supported format for MP4, but I already own a Creative Zen X-Fi and I am not about to buy another player just to get H264. A second standard should also be in there to cover players that do not have H264.

At the moment I think that

At the moment I think that people would be more interested in your product (despite it be a very good product) if it was able to support xvid/divx. H264 is only good for a small amount of players whereas Xvid and Divx have a much wider audience.

That say I can see your point on re-writing a codec.. however, Xvid is free under the gnu so you could pick up the current code and adapt it!? I'm not sure if this is possible since I understand the processing method is totally different but always worth mentioning it.

Re: Xvid / Divx

H.264 is the only output we support at this point.  Since all this technology is new for the GPU, we have to develop our own codec from scratch.  This is something that we plan to do for more outputs for future versions of Badaboom down the road, but is not something that can be whipped up.

As for your GUI for setting a new profile, that is a good idea, though not quite near the top of our list since you can do it yourself with the text file.
